ISCA Project Manage the launch of Brooke Street Pier.

AFTER seven years of planning and seven months of building, the Brooke Street Pier has arrived ahead of schedule at its home in the heart of Hobart's waterfront precinct. ISCA project managed the launch of more than 4,000 tonnes of concrete and polycarbonate that then journey down the River Derwent.

ISCA also provided ship launching airbags to launch the four-story floating superstructure that has been hidden from view at Incat's Prince of Wales dockyards since work started in February.

“Unlike the launch of many large vessels, this was very low key, no lady smashing a bottle of champaign and no big splash,” Mr Ashton-Jones said. “It was a slow and delicate operation, involving very careful management by highly skilled contractors and engineers as well as large amounts of heavy equipment. It’s a great relief to see it in place and a pleasure that it fits in as we expected it would, that it looks so good in the water and the proportions are good.”

The translucent cladding of the upper building will act like a conservatory by creating a passively heated indoor environment and make the building glow at night. The seawater will provide a large part of the airconditioning, reducing cost and environmental impact.
